snapshots: a little behind

So I have fallen a little behind in my portrait resolution,

and just keeping up here on the blog.

I have always told myself that this blog wouldn't get in the way of

being a mom, but would be a nice creative outlet for me in my free time.

And lately my free time has been spent doing other things I love,

playing, reading, sitting outside in the beautiful weather,

going on family dates, napping, and spring cleaning.

We have been well.

We celebrated our favorite guy's birthday early in the month of April,

had a wonderful Easter feast with friends, and spent a week loving on and being 

loved by my brother, sister in law and their new puppy.

things I dig...

Valentine's Day: I have never ever made a huge deal about Valentine's Day, but with kids, holidays are so much more fun. Today, we broke out the watercolors and made paintings to cut into our hearts to give as Valentine's, and some heart sugar cookie's with raspberry frosting is in our near future. I am also giddy about planning a small surprise for my best friend, because I totally dig his chili.

new clearance sweatshirt from Target: (the black one, not the camo) After seeing it, waiting for it to go on sale, and then finding it on clearance last week, I have worn it almost everyday since…

new do: I love it!!! after a winter full of side braids and knotted hair from all my cold-weather gear, it feels so great to have a simple yet fun cut. Also, it is still long enough to fit into a pony, and stubby ponies are awesome…or am I the only one who thinks that?

clothespin print displays: Target's dollar bin right now has these giant arrow clothespins, 2 for a buck. I simply attach a command wall strip and Voila, cute wall art display.

oatmeal butterscotch chip cookies: it's still freezing, so over the weekend I whipped up a batch of cookies mostly because I wanted to turn on the oven. and these totally hit the spot.

Oatmeal Butterscotch Chip Cookies

adapted from my mom's chocolate chip cookie recipe

makes about 24 cookies

2 sticks softened butter (1 cup)

3/4 cup brown sugar

3/4 white sugar

2 eggs

1 tsp. vanilla

2 cups flour
1 tsp. cinnamon

1 tsp. baking powder

1/4 tsp. fine sea salt

1/2 tsp. baking soda

2/3 cup old fashioned oats

(I used quick oats for this recipe, because that is all i had)

6 oz. butterscotch chips

Preheat oven to 375* and grease a cookie sheet, or line with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, mix together butter and sugars.
Next blend in eggs and vanilla.
In a separate bowl mix oats, flour, cinnamon, 
baking soda, baking powder and salt.
slowly add to wet ingredients, mixing thoroughly before adding more.
Stir in butterscotch chips.
drop by spoonfuls onto baking sheet and bake for 7-10 minutes.

Enjoy with a cold glass of milk or some hot cocoa!

Also, these cookies are best warm, 
so you should probably eat at least 4 right away!

Well, I have a 5 year old,

and so far, I love it!

Not that I expected not to, but 

this is the first age of my girls that has felt big.

This year I offered Nora the choice of a birthday party,

or a family date, and much to my joy and surprise she chose a family date.

So we had a fun day planned, but when Thursday came around,

my best friend wasn't feeling so well,

so we improvised, postponing family date till he felt better.

Her 5th birthday consisted of,

- Chocolate chip muffins made by mama and the Cord

-Presents

- McDonald's with Playplace time 

- A trip to the mall with just Mama for photo booth pictures

(she wanted a little bit of lipstick for them and I obliged, eek)
- a visit from some great friends

- Facetiming both sets of grandparents,

(we are generously blessed in that department)
- a photo shoot in the leaves.

- Her favorite supper: Mac and Cheese, Chicken, Carrots, and Applesauce
- white chocolate raspberry cheesecake, complete with pony and raspberries

- And more presents

I think for improvising, it was a very fun, special, and full day for our girl.

And here is 5 facts about our 5 year old:

1. She wants to be just a mom when she grows up, 

but she doesn't know what to do with her kids all day.

2. She wants to dance in the Nutcracker,

she doesn't have to be Clara, she just wants to dance.

3. She loves to stick out her tongue in pictures.

4. Her favorite color is pink, purple, red, turquoise, and violet mixed together.

5. She is very thankful for her family.

Nora Girl and the Cord :: on boogers

No kidding, a conversation I had with these two today.

N: Mom, look at this booger! What's on it?

Me: That's a little bit of blood, 

sometimes when it is really cold and dry,

our nose gets tiny sores in it that bleed a little.

N: Ha! Okay well I almost ate it but then I saw the blood,

so I am glad I didn't eat it.

Me: You eat your boogers?

C: I eat my boogers but 

I don't eat my boogers if there is blood on them,

just my own boogers.

Me: (throws up a little in my mouth) 

That's disgusting.

Someday, girls you will read this and probably say,

"Gross Mom! I can't believe you told everyone we did this!"

Sighs of disgust and eye rolls all over.

But you did say it, and I want to remember it.

You girls crack me up,

and I love you both dearly.

uhh does that make me weird?

So, while reading one of my favorite blogs the other, Elah Tree, I saw that she tagged me in her post to share 8 facts about myself, some you may think are cool, some are weird, all are about me.

1. I wheeze when I laugh hard :: 95% of the time I spend laughing, I wheeze. Like the initial "PAHHH" to get my laugh started. I used to hate it and would try and make my laugh cuter in high school, but now I have embraced it and just wheeze away. I hope it is an encouragement to anyone telling a joke.

2. My favorite food is a cheeseburger:: even at the nicest of restaurants I am looking for a cheeseburger to order. I find it my goal to find the best cheeseburger in whatever town I live in. No sissy, lady food for me, right Devin?

3. I memorize songs easily, many of them are ridiculous songs :: In Bible College, I would always put my memory work to a song so I could remember them. I can only sing the books of the New Testament and the French alphabet. I have Disney songs, old cartoon opening songs (think Ducktales, Darkwing Duck, and Talespin), and commercials memorized. I never had one of these, but if you ask I can sing the old commercial for BayWatch Barbie, yup.

4. I love puzzles :: My daughter snagged a 100 piece horse puzzle at Greer Family Christmas, and I found myself putting it together late one night. Some of my fondest memories dating my husband is spending time at his parents house, helping his dad put together hu puzzles.

5. I have never colored my hair :: Not because I have an intense passion against chemicals, or because I am so in love with my natural color, but mostly because I don't want to spend the money or start the cycle of constantly coloring. Even if ombre is in style at the moment.

6. My sense of humor is most affected by people falling, getting hit, running into things :: Because of this, number 1 happens often, and sometimes at inopportune moments. This also, gives me an affinity for Kevin James' movies, such as Paul Blart: Mall Cop.

7. I really like to dress up :: I do like to dress up nice and fancy, but what I mean here is costumes. I play dress up with my girls, and if an event asks for my kids to dress up, I will do my best to put together a costume for me too. At a few Halloween events, I was the only mom who dressed up with her kids. 

8. I wear my Denver Broncos stocking hat every single day in the winter :: My husband gave me this hat for my 26th birthday and whenever it is slightly cold, or the Broncos are playing, I am wearing it! Around the house or town, but not in church, I am not that weird.

Hooray!!

I am now 27!

We had a very quiet, simple day,

complete with steak, playground,

a cake my husband made, 

and a wonderful birthday surprise

that brought tears to my eyes.

Birthdays are my favorite!

speaking of favorites,

some may be a surprise:

1. It Takes Two -- I know almost every single line from this movie,

and oftentimes quote this quirky Olsen Twins classic.

2. R&B -- I own 3 Boyz II Men CDs, can still sing

U Got it Bad by Usher in it's entirety.

(and I sometimes attempt to dance like him too, you're welcome for that visual)

3. Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens -- read it junior year and 4 times since.

Second favorite book is Great Expectations.

4. Mossimo Boyfriend Tees -- I have the same shirt in 5 different colors,

that is shopping for me!

5. While You Were Sleeping -- favorite Christmas movie.

6. Jess -- favorite of Rory's boyfriends.

7. Pinkie Pie 

8. Colonial Williamsburg -- favorite childhood vacation

9. York Peppermint Patties

My awesome night consists of my 3rd piece of birthday cake today

and Foyle's War (another netflix favorite).

After a week of partying, this is a night I have been needing.

Levi just recently added all of our pictures from the last 7 years 

onto our new computer,

and it has been a blast going through them all.

I love remembering the different stages of each girl,

and cracking up at the numerous homes we have lived in during the last 7 years.

N is really into jokes,
hearing them and telling them.
Her usual jokes involve whatever she sees,
and some weird noise.
For example: 

N: Mama, how do you put a pillow on a chair?
Me: Umm.. I don't know.
N: Blerg-da-donk! 
(then she cracks up at herself)

Today, she was into knock knock jokes.
Our conversation in the car today
went something like this:

N: Mama, now you tell me a knock knock joke.
Me: Okay, Knock knock.
N: Who's there?
Me: Banana.
N: Whose Banana?
Me: No, you are suppose to say "Banana Who?"
N: I think it was Cordie's banana.
C: No, nas minee. Si Yeaow guys!
(translation of Cordese: No, not mine, it's the yellow guy's)

Happy Monday!

My monday started with a bed wet,

an exploded diaper,

and Wal*Mart.

Yup.

But, I am glad it is Monday,

I always have more 

motivation on Monday!

I hope your Monday started a bit better than mine!
