it's spring, blerg.

Spring is my least favorite season.
Seriously, I don't get very excited about spring.
In fact, I almost dread Spring,
because to me, Spring = Tornado Season.
(WHY did the Lord send us to the middle of Tornado Alley??)
So, because I have been a very negative person this past week,
and because Spring doesn't always "blow", (hehe, cheesy pun! okay... I am a dork.)
here are the senses I am experiencing that help get me through spring.

Seeing: Flowering and budding trees
The way white peeps through the still bare forests, sigh* well done, Oklahoma.

Smelling: rain, chilly rain. Ahhh...
They can't even bottle the scent. They try, but it's nothing like the real thing.

Tasting: Hot coffee
It's so nice when the mornings are chilly and a steaming cup of coffee just gets you going.
+plus!+ it's the season for CADBURY CREAM EGGS! Boo ya!

Hearing: The Weepies
Some music just helps set the tone of the season.  Nickel Creek and Phoenix are trusty
      companions too.

Feeling: Cold, warm, then hot, then freezing, yes, let's build a fire.
Seriously, the  weather is crazy, I know. But when I get to start my morning snuggling
my girls, then playing outside in the warm sun, even shed some layers, and end the day
cuddled up with my husband on the couch, it's a good FANTASTIC day.

the older girls finding their favorite first flowers of Spring.

Here's what I want you to take away from this post

Tornadoes = bad, scary, boo hiss
Spring = tolerable... okay, maybe a little, ... tiny bit... fun?
Snuggling = great past time
Eden = a dork with good taste in music

What helps you get through spring? and if you love Spring, um why?

sunshine and s'more cookies.

I smile so big when I think about this weekend.
So good.
We really needed that.
The weather was perfect,
so we soaked up every ounce of sunshine we could.

And as the sun set, we made a fire.
N was begging to roast big marshmallows,
but i didn't have any graham crackers!
OH NO!
Tell me, what good are roasted marshmallows
if you can't make s'mores?
(I may have been a little desperate for chocolate)
So, I created our s'more cookie!

S'more Cookies - Greer Style
What you'll need (I doubled this recipe to make the measurements easier) :

1/2 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/4 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
(we love dark, you could use milk for a more authentic a'more flavor)
large roasting marshmallows

Cream butter and brown sugar.  Add egg and vanilla and mix well.
Sift in dry ingredients and blend. Add chocolate chips.
Bake @ 350* for 7-10 minutes. While cookies are baking,
have a sweet little girl roast some marshmallows. Transfer marshmallow
to the top of the cookie and flatten (these are rrrreeaallyy gooey).

Enjoy with an ice cold bottle of root beer!

P.S. this happy happy girl got to go on a special lunch date with her wonderful daddy!

How was your weekend? Did you create/make something?

my littlest

This is my view today.
She is a happy baby.

She explores
new foods,
faces,
and places.

I am thankful for the joy
she adds to our family.

top 10 on the 10th

Things I never thought I would say...
as a parent.

1. If you keep sticking your fingers in your mouth while you eat, you WILL bite yourself.

2. Did you stick Jessie's hair up your nose?

3. If you sit in the chair again, you will go to timeout.

4. No! Stop sitting on my head!

5. Umm... because I'm bigger.

6. Don't lay down in a parking lot.

7. We have to wear underpants everyday.

8. Get off of me you have throw up in your hair.

9. Slugs won't kill you.

10. Stop putting ponies in your pants.

What are some of the ridiculous things you have found yourself saying to your kids?

my kids rock

this weekend was hard.
I was tired, grumpy, and wanted to wallow in self-pity.
(seriously, ask my man)

the girls all needed attention, constantly.
the bathroom needed to be primed.
the kitchen needed a good scrub.
the laundry needed to be folded.
the garden needed some care.
the meals needed to be made.
and the mama,
well she needed a good ol' long nap.

and I am happy to report, that the bathroom is painted,
(still working on the ceiling though)
the laundry is put away.
we ate, good,
and the busy girls got lots and lots of snuggles, loves,
time outs, and play from their mama and daddy.

no, I did not get a nap.
But...
when my oldest brought me some flowers
after playing outside tonight.
this mama feels refreshed, content, and loved.

So, this weekend was hard,
but,
it was full of good good things.

happy weekend

lullabies
we are for them.
sometimes they are my bargaining chip for getting a quick bedtime routine,
"Girls, we are running out of time for songs, please
brush your teeth/go potty/get a drink now"
(I sound that kind all of some of the time.)
I let the girls request their favorite songs, Old MacDonald,
and Jesus Loves Me.
then there is one,
my mom sang it for me,
they can't even pronounce its name.
its pretty fun and they love it too.
(pretty catchy, huh? and what a fun little family)

happy weekend! have fun adventuring!
