snapshots: a little behind

So I have fallen a little behind in my portrait resolution,
and just keeping up here on the blog.
I have always told myself that this blog wouldn't get in the way of
being a mom, but would be a nice creative outlet for me in my free time.
And lately my free time has been spent doing other things I love,
playing, reading, sitting outside in the beautiful weather,
going on family dates, napping, and spring cleaning.

We have been well.
We celebrated our favorite guy's birthday early in the month of April,
had a wonderful Easter feast with friends, and spent a week loving on and being
loved by my brother, sister in law and their new puppy.

1. birthday tradition, I make a cookie cake for him and he decorates it :: 2. their favorite eggs :: 3. I just love her face here in our easter outtakes :: 4. Easter clothes from Grandma ::
5. Waiting for Bracken, Grace and Mugsy :: 6. quiet afternoon book time ::
7. Our favorite Engineer and Ballerina before they headed home.

my best friend

Today, I am thankful for this guy:

Really I am thankful for him every day,
yep it's cheesy,
but every single day I am thankful to have him as my best friend.
It's so fun to remember all of our time together.
The awkward picture my dad asked for as juniors,

ciy summer conference 2003
photo cred - my dad

the still awkward interaction on a church trip as seniors.
Then going to the same college next semester,
and the giddiness I felt when I walked into my very first class,
and Mr. Greer sat down in front of me!
Followed by years of marriage, babies,
and loads of laughing.

we're engaged!
I love this guy!
I admire his servant heart,
always doing the jobs others don't want to do.
I am encouraged by his diligence,
working hard even when it seems fruitless.
He is steady and loyal.
I say this quite often because
I feel so strongly about its truth,
he is the FUNNIEST person I have ever met,
and laughing is one of my most favorite things!

While our life together hasn't been easy,
its been fun, full of growing and little girls.
We are stronger because of it all,
and we will continue to grow our love.

Bud,
I have been greatly blessed to have you as my husband,
the "Yea Yea" to our girls,
my pilot on our adventures,
and  my best friend.
Thank you for working so hard for us,
for loving us so abundantly,
and for leading us boldly.
Yours Forever

Who are you thankful for today?

"OF COURSE!"

WARNING: this post is pretty sappy. and so am I.

Today at 10:00 am EST
marked the sixth year anniversary of a special day.
My whole family knew what I didn't.

I remember sitting on the couch,
waiting on my sister to get ready.
She had asked me to go to the mall with her,
so I just threw on the ol' reliable
t-shirt + skirt
combo and started watching The Ellen Show.
My sister asked me, "Are you wearing that?!"
Umm...yea, I am not trying to impress anyone,
it's Eastgate.

Then the doorbell rang.
At the door is a boy,
(He was only 21, feels like forever ago)
my favorite boy,
 holding deep red roses.
He surprised me again!
( I thought he was in Illinois)
I invite him in,
simply thrilled he is at my house,
totally unaware of what was next!

Between being mauled by my parent's fourth child,
Keeper, an Australian Shepherd,
Ellen yelling some funny quips,
and Ashlyn poking her head around the corner,
he asks to step back outside,
then
it.got.real.

I don't remember any of what was said next,
I just started to feel so giddy.
I remember the perfect ring sparkled in its box,
I remember how his face looked,
I remember how we both were shaking,
and then I said,
"OF COURSE!"
(NOT what I had planned on saying. I may have practiced after our first date, yep, SAP)

pictures the next day (note:I was dressed better)
goofballs
That day rocked!
I hope to always remember it!
And I get to, whenever I glance at my left hand,
adorned with that same glittering ring.

----

Both my sister and brother will be getting married this year!
Both were engaged within a week of each other this past month.
I am so thrilled for both of them,
I cannot wait to hug both their necks!
(and their fiancés as well)
It is such a special time for them,
and I find myself reliving that same giddiness I felt
6 years ago.

Because marriage is work,
and working with your best friend
is pretty awesome.
I am always thankful,
that he chose me, and
that I said,
"OF COURSE!"
(even if it sounded a little unrehearsed and goofy)
